Jesus Needs You Today
Jul 15, 2026Imagine walking along a road having a conversation with Jesus and suddenly He stops looks at you directly and says, "I have need of you." Most ministry leaders would immediately respond, "Of course, Lord. Anything."
When we look at Scripture, we discover that God's supernatural work has always been accomplished through ordinary people who simply made themselves available to Him.
In Luke 19:29-31, as Jesus prepared for His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, He sent two disciples on a seemingly simple assignment: retrieve a colt that had never been ridden. His instructions were clear: "If anyone asks why you are taking it, say, 'The Lord has need of it.'"
That phrase echoes across the centuries and lands in our hearts today. The Lord has need of you to. Not because He lacks power. Not because He cannot accomplish His purposes without human involvement. Rather, because He has chosen and delights in partnering with willing servants to fulfill His redemptive plan in the earth.
As ministry leaders, we must ask ourselves a critical question: Will we be available and say yes when the Master calls?
God Is Looking for Loyal Hearts, Not Perfect People
Many leaders secretly wrestle with feelings of inadequacy. We see our weaknesses. We remember our failures. We compare ourselves to others who seem more gifted, more experienced, or more effective. Yet Scripture reveals that God is not searching for flawless people.
"The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him" (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Notice what God seeks - a loyal heart. The Lord does not ask for perfection before participation. He asks for surrender before service. Throughout Scripture, God consistently chose imperfect men and women whose hearts were fully devoted to Him. Their availability became the platform for His ability.
Ministry leaders must never allow feelings of inadequacy to disqualify them from what God has called them to do. God is not looking for polished vessels; He is looking for yielded ones.
Your Greatest Qualification Is Availability
One of the most powerful moments in Scripture occurs when Isaiah hears the voice of God asking, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" Isaiah's response was immediate: "Here am I. Send me."
The Kingdom advances through leaders who are willing to say yes. Too often we focus on what we cannot do. God focuses on our willingness to be used. The disciples who retrieved the colt were not performing a glamorous assignment. There were no crowds applauding them. No spotlight was shining on their obedience. Yet their simple act became part of one of the most significant moments in Christ's earthly ministry.
The lesson is clear: God frequently entrusts extraordinary Kingdom outcomes to ordinary acts of obedience. Your effectiveness in ministry is not determined by your talent alone. It is often determined by your willingness to move when God speaks.
Every Assignment Requires Movement
Jesus told His disciples, "Go into the village opposite you." Luke 19:30. Those two words "Go into" changed everything. Assignments require action. Vision without movement accomplishes nothing.
Every ministry leader has received a Kingdom mandate. Pastors and ministry leaders are called to shepherd God's people, proclaim the Gospel, equip believers, develop disciples and strengthen the church. Yet none of these assignments are fulfilled while standing still. The Great Commission begins with a command: "Go."
The Gospel advances when leaders step beyond comfort zones, enter communities, engage people, and pursue those who need Christ. The harvest is never gathered from the sidelines.
Ministry Is a Journey, not a Destination
The disciples' assignment took them on a journey. Likewise, every ministry calling unfolds through this same process. Jesus commissioned His followers to make disciples of all nations. Disciple-making is not a one-time event; it is a lifelong journey of helping people follow Christ, grow in faith, and become mature believers. Along the way, God orchestrates divine intersections.
Consider Peter and Cornelius in Acts 10. One was a preacher. The other was a spiritual seeker. Neither fully understood what God was doing, yet God brought them together at the perfect moment. The same remains true today.
Every ministry leader serves as a bridge between God's purposes and people's needs. Someone must preach. Someone must teach. Someone must pray. Someone must love. Someone must go. And often, that someone is you.
Every Assignment Faces Challenges
When the disciples began untying the colt, they were immediately questioned. "Why are you loosing the colt?"
Obedience often attracts opposition. Every ministry leader will encounter challenges, criticism, resistance, and moments of uncertainty. The key is remembering why you are serving. The disciples did not argue. They did not defend themselves. They simply answered, "The Lord has need of it."
When you know you are on assignment from Jesus, you can withstand opposition with confidence. You are not merely building programs. You are not simply organizing events. You are participating in God's eternal purposes. Every act of obedience contributes to a much larger Kingdom story.
Jesus Knows Exactly What He Is Doing
Nothing about the colt assignment surprised Jesus. He knew where the colt was. He knew what questions would be asked. He knew how events would unfold.
Likewise, the Lord knows every detail surrounding your assignment. He knows the opportunities ahead of you. He knows the obstacles you will face. He knows the people you are called to reach. He knows the promises He intends to fulfill through your life and ministry.
What feels uncertain to us is never uncertain to Him. Ministry leaders can move forward confidently because the One who called them already sees the outcome.
God Uses Ordinary People to Accomplish Extraordinary Things
The colt was not a war horse. It was not impressive. It was not majestic. It was young and ordinary. Yet Jesus chose it for a sacred purpose. It would fulfill the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9.
The world often celebrates prominence, influence, and visibility. But God frequently chooses what appears common to accomplish what is uncommon.
The Lord delights in using ordinary leaders, ordinary churches, and ordinary acts of obedience to produce extraordinary Kingdom impact. The question is not whether you are impressive enough. The question is whether you are available enough.
You Are a Valuable Part of God's Redemptive Plan
Jesus invited His disciples into His mission. He still does the same today. The harvest remains plentiful. Communities are waiting. Nations are searching. Families are hurting. Believers need discipleship. The church needs strengthening. And God is still asking, "Whom shall I send?"
The question is not whether God is calling. The question is whether we will answer with a Yes!
Ministry leader, heaven has invested too much in your calling for you to settle into comfort. There are people waiting on the other side of your obedience. There are lives connected to your yes. There are doors God intends to open, communities He intends to transform, and disciples He intends to raise up through your ministry. The Lord has need of you today.
Will you say yes again? Will you embrace afresh the assignment He has placed in your hands? Will you go where He sends, serve where He leads, and trust Him with the results?
Today, hear the voice of the Master calling your name. Lay aside hesitation. Lay aside fear. Lay aside excuses. Stand before Him and declare with fresh conviction: "Here am I, Lord. Send me."
The Kingdom is advancing. The harvest is ready. The Master is calling. Say yes to Jesus afresh, marry His vision and fulfill the assignment for which you were created.
